Curiosity wins...

Some have said that the AV guys are the smartest guys in the room. They spend days at a time listening to fascinating speakers inform their audience about everything from codes and standards to transplant genetics with everything in between. They get to hear about innovations, ideas, concepts, new products, law, religion, politics, and business. But, while many hear, not many listen nor do they learn. What makes a difference between an average tech and one that you can count on?

One word; CURIOSITY!

A curious person does not accept the status quo for themselves or their situation, they are looking for new ideas, new ways of accomplishing tasks and, most importantly, how to improve themselves. Listening is the key to learning and accomplishing things successfully, not just in live events but in life. Listening sets the stage for success. Doing new things expands capability and instills confidence.

When you are searching for a good fit for your team, ask your prospective freelancer what they are doing in their free time. Are they reading a book from a recent conference, experimenting with software, building expertise in an unrelated field, or just building model boats during their down time? Look for people that are learning and doing and you will find people who will never give up, will never accept "just good enough", and will work to make you, and your event, a tremendous success.
